In the Princess Principal series, the Black Lizard Planet is an in-universe fictional planet inhabited by black lizards. Ange le Carré makes regular references to the Black Lizard.

Head Writer Ichirō Ōkouchi came up with the idea of having Ange talk about the Black Lizard Planet in episode 1. According to Director Masaki Tachibana, why Ōkouchi decided on this addition still remains unknown to the other staff members. [1]

"Black Lizard" (黒蜥蜴 , Kurotokage) is also the title of a detective novel by famous Japanese novelist Edogawa Ranpo, whose story follows a famous detective trying to catch a female thief by the name "Black Lizard." No supplementary works make mention of this fact, however.

In-Universe Function[]

In-universe, the Black Lizard Planet is usually brought up by Ange le Carré, who claims to be a native of the planet. Throughout her usual dialogue she sprinkles in outrageous lies about the planet. According to director Masaki Tachibana, this emphasises her lies, and signals to the other characters when she is lying. [1]

According to Ange le Carré, the Black Lizard Planet is populated by Black Lizards. Black Lizards are a folk that care for their elderly. [2] Their ancestors are dinosaurs. [3]

Princess Charlotte from the Royal Family of Albion is said to be a famous princess even on the Black Lizard Planet, according to Ange. [3]
